Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 8, 2005 for George Hollenback, who died Saturday, June 4, 2005 at the Winner Regional Healthcare Center in Winner, SD, at the First Christian Church at Winner with Pastor Shawn Hunze, Officiating. Cary Long, Doug Halverson, Miles DeJong, Roger Shippy, Lou DeJong, Cody Hollenback, Levi Hollenback and Randy Blare will serve as pall bearers. Interment will be at the Winner Cemetery.

[b]Legion Posts observe Memorial Day across Lyman County[/b]

People gathered on the grounds of the Lyman County Pioneer Museum Monday morning for the Presho Butrick Post #89 Memorial Day Program. Commander David Miller introduced the speaker Army National Guardsman Jeff Nelson of Mitchell. Nelson, who is employed full time with the Guards returned from Iraq in August 2004 following a tour of duty with the 842nd of Spearfish, Sturgis, and Belle Fourche. Nelson also spoke at services held in Vivian Monday morning.

Musical selections were presented by Kim Lebeda, Jana Springer, and Justine Perry. Band directors Scott and Julie Muirhead and volunteers including Ian and Sarah Muirhead, Abby Perry, and Kylie and Jordi Terca also performed.

A potluck dinner followed the services at the museum.

Johnson-Peterson Post #179 hosted two programs Monday morning, the first at the Kennebec gym and the second at the Legion Hall at Reliance. Commander Jim Sundall introduced the speaker Jeff Hrabanek, former District 8 Commander and current commander of the Colome Legion. Hrabanek recently returned from a tour of duty overseas.

Musical selections were performed by Kristen Sundall, Mandy Longville, and Tiarra Bowar with Gloria Bowar accompanying. The first and second place Auxiliary patriotic writing winners from Kennebec Elementary read their poems and essays. Lane Scott, read his letter to a soldier while Tiarra read for the youth absent including Landon Fanning and Emily Moran poem winners and Duffy Ducheneaux, essay winner. Newly elected commander Charles Kentch presented the Reading of the Roll.

Following services at the Kennebec cemetery Legionnaires and others traveled to Reliance to present the program again. A potluck dinner was enjoyed by a large number of attendees following services at the Reliance cemetery.

[b]Boys track team ties for seventh place[/b]

Lyman Boys Track team tied with Jones County, each had 23 points at the conclusion of the state track meet Saturday at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.

Kyle Meier took first place in the Class B shot Put with a score of 52 feet. Kyle holds the school record with a 52' 10" throw early this year. Brian Kemnitz through the discus 142' 11" to take 5th place. Blaine Brakke received 3rd place in the 300 meter hurdles while the 400 meter relay consisting of Jacey Schmidt, Jordan Gourneau, Sean McClanahan, and Blaine Brakke took 6th place with a time of 46.41.

The Lyman girls competing at State were Haley Juhnke and Ashley Kemnitz. Juhnke ran the 100 meter hurdles in 15.32 to take first place in Class B. She also received a 5th place finish in the 300 meter hurdles. Kemnitz took 4th place in the 100 meter hurdles.

Coaches Joel Milton, Charlie and Sarah Larson traveled to the meet with the Raider trackesters.
